DIY Turntable for Photography
The turntable is an essential thing that needs to be on a creator’s collection if not you need to go through this post on DIY turntable for photography.
If you still don’t know what turntable is all about let me give you a quick info about this.
Have you ever seen a video that has an object showing its entire 360 degrees.
Apparel and other fashion accessories follow this kind of video shoot.
What is a Turntable and why is it essential for videos?
The turntables are for video shoots where there is a need to cover the entire 360 degrees of the object.
In simple ways to explain this turntables work in the same way a cake rotating table works.
There is a manual method to turn but here we are using motors to do the purpose.
Now let us go through the building of this amazing device.
Bonus: Consider checking our project on Smart glasses for the blind.
Materials Required to build a Rotating Turntable
- Empty plastic container
- The servo motor has been modified to rotate 360 degree
- White sheet of paper
- CD
- Lithium-ion battery and switch
I chose a plastic container that was cylindrical in shape.
It must be slightly greater than the size of the micro servo and it should hold a lithium-ion battery.
You can directly buy a 360-degree rotating micro servo or modify the existing 180-degree servo by modifying internal gears.
The CD that I will be using in this project is already used you can replace this part with a circular piece of cardboard.
With all these materials in hand, you can start to build the project
Building the Turntable
I will use the cylinder top part to hold the motor, I will mark the servo shape below the container.
You can use any hobby cutter to cut the shape since the plastic is very soft it is easy to work on this.
Now make sure if the servo just fits the cut space.
Now secure it with hot glue and allow it to dry completely before moving into further steps.
After this is done, take a CD and attach to the horns of micro servo, it is a very easy task.
Then we can finally add the electronics, I used a potentiometer to control the speed of dc motor.
You can directly use the DC motor speed controller, but I’m my case potentiometer is doing the job.
This project is powered by a 3.7v lithium ion battery, and i have cased it with battery holder.
With all these components you can place them inside the case and close the lid.
How to use the turntable for videography
If you are a creator that always experiments with videography techniques this is a very easy task for you.
You just place the object on the white sheet of paper.
You can also place the color paper of your choice as per your background requirement.
Slowly turn the potentiometer according to the requirement of the speed.
Depending on the object you can turn the knob and take a video.
This helps you to take better videos for your portfolio.
There are lots of upgrades that can be done and i will soon come with a version 2 of this project.
You can build this project and create some amazing videos of your project, that was all about DIY Turntable for Photography project.
